FAN XIAOLAN, the mayor of Dangyang City in Central China’s Hubei Province, resigned after police held her responsible for killing a boy in a traffic accident, local authorities said Wednesday.

Pay for quitting

ZENG ZHIHONG, a pilot, was ordered to pay 1.4 million yuan (US$200,000) in compensation after resigning from an airline, a Yunnan Province court ruled Thursday, in a case that has received national attention.

Bottled water

NATIONAL and local health authorities have confirmed that tainted bottled water was the source of a recent outbreak of Hepatitis A in Guiyang, Guizhou Province that infected at least 330 people, Xinhua news agency reported Thursday.

Cote d’Ivoire crisis

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, who is in Abidjan on an official visit, reaffirmed the “firm resolve” of the international community to help Cote d’Ivoire to end its current crisis, official sources said Thursday.
