Japanese school to open in April

Han Ximin

A SCHOOL for Japanese children in Shenzhen will open in Shekou in April.

The school, sponsored by several Japanese companies including Shenzhen Fuji Xerox, will enroll around 60 students when it begins operation in mid-April.

For the time being, the school has rented the second floor of Haitao Hotel in Shekou as its premises. It will move to a new campus in three years after a school building is completed.

The establishment of a school for Japanese children in Shenzhen has been listed in the city’s 11th five-year education program, said Vice Mayor Yan Xiaopei while meeting Watanabe Hideo, consul general of the Japanese Consulate in Guangzhou on Wednesday.

Yan has asked government departments to work closely with the preparatory committee of the school to ensure the smooth operation of the new school.

The school will play a vital role in the lives of Japanese people who intend to live and work in Shenzhen for a long period of time and also help the city attract more Japanese investment, said Hideo.

More than 10,000 Japanese people live in Shenzhen at present, and around 1 million Japanese visit the city every year, according to an earlier report in the Shenzhen Economic Daily.
