A photograph of a Shenzhen street taken in 1981 by a retired U.S. professor, only known as Larry, who visited the city just after it had been designated as one of the five "special economic zones" in China. According to Shenzhen resident Li Jinmu, a friend of Larry, the professor and his wife crossed Luohu Checkpoint to Shenzhen for a day trip between giving lectures at Hong Kong universities in February 1981. The Southern Metropolis Daily, which published the photo Thursday, urged residents to identify the location of the street, and said it would send Larry a recent photo of the street.
