Shenzhen experimental musician Lu Zheng, best known as Zen Lu, will perform in a concert with Hong Kong artists Dickson Dee and Sin:Ned in Hong Kong on Friday.
The concert, titled “We Play White Noise,” has been organized by White Noise Records of Hong Kong and the Shenzhen indie music label We Play! The concert will also promote the release of Chinese-Polish band ChoP’s second album “8 Rooms.”
ChoP was launched by Zen Lu and Polish experimental musician, Grzegorz Bojanek, in 2006. The first album of ChoP’s “Over a Foul Line, Simple Questions,” which was produced by Zen Lu and Bojanek, was released in March 2007. The duo will invite more avant-garde artists from both countries for future album releases, aiming to create a taste of two cultures.
The tracks on “8 Rooms” were composed by Hong Kong’s Dickson Dee and Tomasz Pauszek from Poland. Sin:Ned and Polish electronic musician Minoo have been invited to join the recording of ChoP’s third album, which will be released in the middle of May.
During the concert, another Shenzhen-based experimental musician, Liu Chun, will appear as a guest. In the past few years, Liu founded and joined several bands and started composing experimental music in 2007. Much of his work presents a mysterious and silent landscape of Eastern philosophic thoughts.
Working and living in Shenzhen, Zen Lu founded several groups, including Consciousness and Young Crazy, from which he developed a huge interest in the genres of experimental and electronic music. Zen Lu has released four CDs and performed in a string of music festivals in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Sweden and Poland.
