45 enrolled by Univ.of Toronto

FORTY-FIVE students of Shenzhen Foreign Languages School were admitted yesterday to the University of Toronto through the "green channel" without having to take the TOFEL or the ELTS.

The Shenzhen school sent 27 graduates to the Canadian university through the "green channel" last year for the first time. It was also the first time Shenzhen middle school students had been enrolled by an internationally prestigious university in groups through the "fast track."

Forty-eight students applied for the program this year, and 45 succeeded. They will study finance, management, IT, psychology, mathematics and bio-engineering and other sciences. Fifteen of them will get paid internships at well-known Canadian companies before their third year at the university. This will enable them to acquire one year of work experience before graduation.

The 48 candidates took an English test in November, and appeared for interviews in Shenzhen in January.

Chen Shuo, who was enrolled by the university, said he was happy to be admitted and expressed his gratitude to his teachers and classmates.

Six Chinese schools have joined the "green channel" program with the University of Toronto.
